Life insurance UNDERWRITERS' programme
In partnership with a group of leading underwriters, senior medical officers and other industry leaders, the ASISA Academy is pioneering a new programme that will see Underwriting firmly positioned as a formal profession in South Africa. We are excited to have launched the first course in September 2011. The following summary gives a taste of what is in store for the programme’s eleven candidates…
Programme Duration
Thirty days at the Academy comprising five consecutive days per month from September 2011 to March 2012 (with a break in December).
Learning Outcomes
The course is divided into two main sections covering the following headline topics:
- Business Context & Insurance Fundamentals
- The External South African Financial Landscape
- Internal Principles behind an Insurance Business
- Risk Cover Products
- Free to Grow (self-management) skills
- Risk Assessment
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Pathology
- Underwriting Tools and Non-Medical Risk Factors
Industry Presenters & Programme Champion
26 industry experts and 9 medical doctors will be sharing their experiences with the Programme Champion, Therese Droste, connecting the dots from one session to another and ensuring the big picture stays in focus. Therese is a highly respected underwriter with more than 30 years’ experience in South Africa, Asia and Europe including having developed a series of Underwriter manuals and online courses.
Accreditation
The Academy is working with the INSETA to ensure that the qualification is accredited on the National Qualifications Framework and that Underwriting as a profession in South Africa moves forward into a new era.
